CONFERENCE ORGANIZED BY THE VENICE FOUNDATION, WORLD CAPITAL OF SUSTAINABILITY

Resilient Cultural Heritage: Protecting Cultural Heritage from Sea Level Rise

Venezia, Giorgio Cini Foundation, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, from 9.30 am (registrations from 9.00 am) to 1.00 pm.

Considering the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, it is crucial to address the challenges posed by rising sea levels and extreme weather events, which are expected to increase in frequency. Even with efforts to decarbonize our economies, sea levels are projected to rise over the next two centuries, putting at risk more than 250 million people living in coastal areas less than 2 meters above sea level. Vulnerable sites include numerous World Heritage Listed sites located in low-lying coastal regions, including 49 sites across the Mediterranean.

The engineer Pierpaolo Campostrini, Director of CORILA, will be the moderator of the event.
