ACTIVITIES AND PROJECTS

GIS4EU. Provision of interoperable datasets to open GI to EU communities

The European Project GIS4EU is coordinated by CORILA. The project involves more than twenty institutions from ten different European countries. This is the first project of eContentplus Programme coordinated by an Italian institution.
Aim of the project is the creation of an European GIS, providing and sharing basic cartographic data, to be accessible and interoperable (cross-border/scale/language) for aggregation purposes, according to the INSPIRE Directive.

NASCUM

Concerning the across the border Adriatic Program INTERREG IIIA of EU initiative, recently changed into the New within the border Adriatic Program INTERREG/CARDS-PHARE, CORILA, as Lead Partner, has presented two funded projects, NASCUM and CoWaMa.
NASCUM – North Adriatic Surface Current Mapping – aims at the realization of a pilot project in the North Adriatic area for surveying the surface currents, through the installation of a system of coastal radars which can integrate the current measurings of the environment.

CoWaMa

CoWaMa-Coastal Water Management – Environmental survey of the Boka, Kotor, Montenegro Bay.
The project aims at studying the sea coastal ecosystem of Boka Bay in all its components (water, sediments and biota), investigating distribution and levels of the present polluting substances, as well as their long-term and short-term impact on this Bay, which is under UNESCO protection.

ENCORA

The capacity to generate knowledge for sustainable coastal development is spread in Europe over many hundreds of institutes and research groups. Many hundreds of institutions have responsibility for coastal policy-making and coastal management. Many similarities exist in the research and management tasks carried out by this large number of organisations. The ENCORA Coordination Action aims to overcome existing fragmentation. Therefore a range of mechanisms will be developed to share knowledge and experience within and between the communities of coastal science, policy and practice.
SPICOSA

SPICOSA is an IP-Integrated Project on the theme of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management – ICZM, financed by the funds of the EU 6th Framework Programme.
It is a Consortium including 54 partners: Universities, Research Institutes, Small, Medium Concerns, JRC and CORILA.CORILA, as Stakeholder, is the scientific, administrative and managerial partner for the Study Site of Venice lagoon.
CORILA is the coordinator of the scientific activity to be carried out in the area of Venice lagoon, as well as the administrative and managerial reference figure for the Steering Committee in this area of study. The newsletter of the project is online.

LAGUNET

LaguNet (Italian Lagoon Obstervatinal Network) arises from the idea of creating a working network collecting all the studies present in Italy about the coastal zones, which are connected with the flow of nourishing and contaminating substances, so as to run the study of the transition ecosystems located along the Italian coasts with the application of LOICZ (Land Ocean Interactions in Coastal Zone) methodologies.
The activities carried out by LaguNet, from its beginning till today, led to many important results in both Italian and European field.

ARCHIDATA

“ArchiData” is a product of CORILA Research Programme, belonging to “Catalogue of Venetian plasters and historical interventions for high water defence” research line, which concerns the cataloguing of facings in the old town centre of Venice. This product is an instrument open to everybody, researchers, architecs, engineers, local administrations and to those involved in the works of preservation and restoration of the building heritage of the town. Aim of the portal is to present the facings of lagoon buildings, in order to preserve their material consistency which has characterized, over the centuries, Venice surfaces and colours.

ELGIRA

“ELGIRA” is a product of CORILA Research Programme, belonging to “Cost-benefits analysis of land reclamation of brownfields in the Venice lagoon” research line. ELGIRA is a Support System to Decisions in planning and carrying out reclamation, allowing the knowledge and evaluation of precise or macro-area interventions, starting from general scenarios, institutional agreements and planning provisions. This system allows the creation of requalification scenarios, in keeping with the current provisions of law, and based on the destinations for use, management of residual risks, analysis and improvement of the environment quality and cost minimization.

GMES

GEAR, GMES European Assessment by Regions, is a project, recently launched by CORILA, within the frame of GMES programme, to promote the involvement of the European Regions and their agencies in the future GMES structure and governance.
The GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) programme is a joint initiative of the European Commission and the European Space Agency – ESA, which aims at integrating institutional, scientific and industrial structures in order to represent coherently Spatial Information and to respond to the ever more present questions regarding civil and environmental protection and public safety.
GEAR main idea is “to enlarge the bandwidth of communication” between the providers and the final users of GMES services providing a number of real test - beds in the different European regions. GEAR project is lead by CORILA.

MULTIFUNCTIONALITY & VALUATION
Tema 1: Multifunzionalità & Valutazione

The running of the coasts implies constant comparisons with conflicts about the assignation and use of maritime and coastal resources. These conflicts associate variables and processes of different contests and use different languages, measures and criteria. New instruments and strategies are required in order to compare different values and obtain shared decision processes.
The multidisciplinary network puts together researchers, professional people, administrators, analysts, supervisors of the socioeconomic and decisional impacts.
SUFALNET

SULFANET is a project funded by the INTERREG IIIC, the European programme designed to strengthen the social and economic cohesion in European Union by promoting cooperation.
The city of Venice contributes to the project with the realization of the San Giuliano Urban Park. The new park is located in Mestre, the modern city of Venice, and it constitutes a part of a larger plan on redeveloping the industrial area of Porto Marghera.
CORILA takes part to the project providing the database and the various publications. CORILA has also organized for the early 2006 a day on Sulfanet and the San Giuliano Urban Park.
